Stainless Steel 347 Plates is stabilized against chromium carbide formation by the addition of columbium and tantalum. It should be considered for applications requiring intermittent heating between 800 Degree F (427 Degree C) and 1650 Degree F (899 Degree C) or for welding under conditions which prevent a post-weld anneal.

However, the hardenability of this steel can be minimized by the use of constant positive feeds and slow speeds. Machining grade SS 347 Plates is slightly tougher than that of grade 304 steel. Although this material requires higher initial forces than 304 stainless, it is quite tough and ductile and can be readily stamped, blanked, spun and drawn.
