SS 317 Pipes is resistant to sulphuric acid concentrations at temperatures as high as 120 degree f (49 degree c). However at temperatures under 100 degree f (38 degree c), SS 317 Tubes has excellent resistance to solutions of higher concentration. Alloy 317 Tubes might also be considered for exposures where sensitization and intergranular corrosion are concerns. Grade 317 Pipes from Venus Pipe And Tubes has a columbium (niobium) / tantalum stabilized austenitic chromium – nickel stainless steel which was developed to provide an 18-8 type alloy by means of improved intergranular-corrosion resistance. Grade 317 Tubes are slightly improved corrosion resistance over other alloys of stainless steel in strongly oxidizing environments as a result of the addition of columbium (niobium) and tantalum. AISI 317 Pipes from Venus Pipe And Tubes does not perform well in chloride solutions, even in small concentrations, or in sulphuric acid.
